Brendan Grant is an iconic Wellington/Hutt Valley artist who has a distinctive style in capturing local scenes.
He says “I am mainly influenced by painters from the late 1800s to early 1900s. Some biggest influences in my painting style are Vincent Van Gogh and Edward Hopper. Vincent Van Gogh was probably the first artist to make me want to be a painter rather than an illustrator or comic book artist with his high-energy style of painting and use of colour and movement. Edward Hopper – his imperfect realism painting that wasn’t just representation but a way of creating inner worlds with a sense of loneliness and isolation, also a sense of optimism in the way sunlight interacted with the scenes and was specific to the time and place of early 20th century America”.
To make art affordable he has created cards, magnets and small prints that are available at Gift Hutt. These would make great gifts to send overseas.
